To neutralize the bomb, police and teams went door to door from the evening hours, warning citizens to leave the area; empty apartments were marked, roads were closed, and announcements were made via loudspeakers. An area of 800 meters in the Grossreuth district was completely evacuated, and 21,000 people were evacuated. This evacuation was recorded as the largest evacuation ever conducted for a war relic bomb in Nuremberg. The extensive evacuation operation was completed during the night.

BOMB WEIGHING 450 KILOGRAMS

The city administration announced that the approximately 450-kilogram bomb was safely destroyed by expert teams at 03:30. About 500 firefighters, 250 health and rescue personnel, 60 technical assistance (THW) staff, and more than 100 police officers participated in the operation.

After the bomb was neutralized, the area was reopened, and citizens were allowed to return to their homes.
