The first snowfall of the season has occurred in the inner and eastern regions of Turkey. Heavy snowfall was particularly effective in Sivas, Giresun, and Ordu. Many highways in Sivas were closed to traffic due to the snowfall. Meanwhile, the meteorology department issued a yellow code warning for 24 provinces.
The cities of Sivas, Giresun, and Ordu, which were warned with a yellow code by the General Directorate of Meteorology, were covered in white.
In Sivas, where heavy snowfall was effective, especially in the high regions, traffic was disrupted, and roads were closed. According to a statement from the governorship, the Kangal-Hekimhan, Kangal-Sivas, and Gürün-Sivas highways were closed to vehicle traffic in both directions due to snowfall and blizzards. Additionally, heavy vehicle crossings on the Koyulhisar-Mesudiye and Divriği-Kangal highways are not allowed in both directions.
ROADS CLOSED IN MALATYA
Due to the increasing snowfall and blizzards in the evening hours, vehicle crossings from the Mesudiye district of Ordu and the Hekimhan district of Malatya to Sivas were closed.
Malatya Governor Seddar Yavuz stated on his social media account, "Due to heavy snowfall and blizzards, the Hekimhan Kangal Highway has been temporarily closed to traffic. It is necessary to have snow tires, chains, and towing ropes due to the possibility of sudden snowfall and icing." he said.
Due to the snow, a truck lost control of its steering wheel on the Sivas-Malatya highway and stopped by the roadside. While another truck driver was helping him, a car crashed into the truck on the roadside. In the accident, one person lost their life, and 5 people were injured. Snowfall was also effective on the Malatya-Kayseri highway.
Transportation was disrupted in the Geminbeli Pass between the districts of Suşehri and Zara in Sivas, especially due to the increasing snowfall in the evening hours.
WEATHER CONDITIONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
According to the forecasts made by the General Directorate of Meteorology; the general region is expected to be partly and very cloudy, with rain and showers in the eastern Marmara, Central and Eastern Mediterranean, the southern and eastern parts of Central Anatolia, the Black Sea, the northern and western parts of Eastern Anatolia, the western part of Southeastern Anatolia, as well as in the vicinity of Antalya, Bingöl, and Diyarbakır, while the interior highlands of the Eastern Black Sea and the highlands of the northern parts of Eastern Anatolia are expected to have mixed rain and occasional snowfall.
It is expected that the precipitation will be locally strong in the regions of Niğde, Kayseri, Sivas, Samsun, Ordu, and Giresun.
YELLOW WARNING FOR 24 PROVINCES
According to the latest map from the meteorology, a yellow warning has been issued for 24 provinces.
The provinces under warning include; Adıyaman, Bingöl, Bitlis, Diyarbakır, Elazığ, Erzincan, Erzurum, Giresun, Hakkari, Hatay, Kayseri, Malatya, Mardin, Muş, Ordu, Samsun, Siirt, Sivas, Tokat, Tunceli, Şanlıurfa, Van, Batman, and Şırnak.
