Karşıyaka Mayor Yıldız Ünsal stated that he, his bureaucrats, the managers of Kent A.Ş., and their families have been threatened due to the 'Textile Days' project they plan to implement at Bostanlı Market.
50 VENDORS INVADED WITH VEHICLES
At the opening of the Karşıyaka Municipal Council meeting, a video was shown regarding the events that took place at Bostanlı Market, which was closed last Wednesday due to electrical renovations. With footage from security cameras, images of a group of approximately 50 vendors breaking down barricades and fences, and forcibly entering with their vehicles while damaging public property were shared with the public. Karşıyaka Mayor Yıldız Ünsal, who watched the video with great sadness, stated that they imposed fines on all these individuals and filed criminal complaints against them.
"AS A FEMALE MAYOR, I WILL NOT ALLOW THESE BULLIES"
Ünsal said, "We saw that there is a system of rent here. Stalls have been sold. Stalls have been sold for up to 12 million lira. They were reportedly paying 15,000 lira weekly to some individuals to open stalls in the market... If there will be a change of stalls here, the only authority is the Municipal Council; there is no other authority. From now on, stalls that are not opened in their own name will be canceled. There is a rent, and I don't know what that rent is, but I think measures will be taken regarding this. I call on all units to take action. As a female mayor, I will not allow these bullies. I also want our District Governor and our Police to fulfill their duties.
"THEY WENT TO THEIR HOMES AND THREATENED THEM WITH THEIR CHILDREN"
Ünsal finally recounted with tears that a manager was threatened at his home along with his family. "It was a very sad incident. I will not mention the names, but they went to the homes of some managers and threatened them with their children. As a mayor, I do not have the luxury of putting anyone in danger. I will not do this," said Mayor Ünsal, announcing that they decided to continue the project in a different area and emphasized that they would take all necessary precautions against the ongoing rent system in the market.
"I WILL TAKE ALL NECESSARY MEASURES"
Ünsal concluded his remarks with the following statements: "We will hold a meeting with our group. I apologize for gathering you here. I cried a lot last night. I cannot express to you what has been done to our friends. As a mayor, I have no right to do this to our friends. But from now on, we will see what rent is, and what it means not to be able to benefit from rent... I will take all necessary measures."
