Can Tuncay was one of the two prosecutors who carried out the first arrest operation against the coup plotters during the FETÖ's July 15 coup attempt.

A critical change occurred in the presidential cabinet. With the decision published in the Official Gazette signed by President Erdoğan, Akın Gürlek, the Chief Public Prosecutor of Istanbul, was appointed as the Minister of Justice, replacing Yılmaz Tunç.
