A crisis occurred before the election in which the members of the Supreme Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) will be determined in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM). CHP deputies argued that the request for a 're-vote' instead of a draw method by AK Party deputies in the Constitutional and Justice Joint Committee, which convened last week, was not legal, and they stated that they would not participate in the election to be held in the General Assembly, leaving the room.

A crisis occurred before the elections in which the members of the Judges and Prosecutors Council (HSK) will be determined in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM).
CHP DEPUTIES LEFT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY
CHP deputies, who argued that the request for 're-voting' instead of the drawing method by AK Party deputies in the Joint Commission of the Constitution and Justice Committee, which convened last week, was not legal, stated that they would not participate in the election to be held in the General Assembly and left the hall.
ÖZEL SAID "IT IS AN ATTEMPT OF SIDE-CUTTING AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION"
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel, in a statement he made after a meeting with DEM Party Co-Chairs Tülay Hatimoğulları and Tuncer Bakırhan today, stated that the election process to be determined by HSK members is a complete example of lawlessness, saying, "It is an attempt of side-cutting against the Constitution."
"WE WILL APPLY TO THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT TOMORROW"
Özel used the following expressions in his statement regarding the issue: "The issue related to HSK is a complete matter of lawlessness. We will apply to the Constitutional Court (AYM) tomorrow when the HSK election ends today, requesting a 'stay of execution.' It is clear: The Constitution says, 'A qualified majority is sought in the first round. A lower qualified majority is sought in the second round. If these cannot be achieved, a draw will be held among the candidates who received the most votes in the third round.' By inventing a non-existent third round of voting, the AKP, which could not achieve a qualified majority in the first two rounds, will try to turn the two candidates who will enter the draw into candidates close to the AKP, supported by them, by splitting their 30 votes into 15-15 with their ally MHP. I won't call it 'a devilry'; it's an audacity, a contempt, an attempt of pickpocketing. Why does the Constitution require a qualified majority? It says, 'If I can't agree, I will put it to a draw,' forcing agreement. This shamelessness will be expressed by friends in the General Assembly today and will be taken to the AYM tomorrow... In any village coffeehouse in Anatolia, any market place, any minibus stop, any workers' bus; read the Constitution, look at what the AKP and MHP are trying to do, the answer in Anatolia is 'Enough already.' The Constitution says, 'One voting, two votings, if it doesn't work, a draw.' It says, 'Let's vote once more, let's split the votes in two, the two candidates with the most votes should be from us.' This is not a trick against the Constitution; this is side-cutting, this is shamelessness. This is being discussed in the Parliament today."
