In the case regarding the Taşoluk Apartment disaster in Konya, where two people lost their lives, the expert report prepared revealed a critical detail about the cause of the collapse. The report emphasized that the load-bearing walls in the basement of the building were constructed in violation of regulations, and this may have played a decisive role in the collapse.
In Konya, a report from the expert was submitted to the court regarding the collapse of the 4-story Taşoluk Apartment, which resulted in the death of 2 people and injuries to 3 others. The report stated that the load-bearing walls in the basement of the building were constructed with a thickness of 30 centimeters instead of the required 40 centimeters, indicating a high likelihood that this situation contributed to the building's collapse.
THE ATTENTION OF RESTAURANT EMPLOYEES PREVENTED AN INCREASE IN CASUALTIES
The incident occurred on January 24 at around 20:00 in the Selçuk neighborhood of the Selçuklu district, where the Taşoluk Apartment, which has a fish restaurant on the ground floor and consists of 7 shops and 14 apartments, collapsed. Ali El Hüseyin (20) and Abrurrahman Keji (17), who worked at the restaurant, warned the residents of the upper floors by ringing the doorbells after noticing the falling tiles from the walls and hearing strange noises before the collapse. As a result, many people evacuated the building.
2 PEOPLE LOST THEIR LIVES
As a result of the collapse of the building, which was constructed in 1992 and received occupancy permits in 1994, Muhammed Jethan (24), Halid El Jethan (55), and Ahmet Muhammed Jethan (23) from the same family were rescued alive 7 hours later from the rubble. However, Turki Muhammed (22), who had married 7 months prior, and his wife Emine Mustafa (18) lost their lives.
10 DEFENDANTS IN COURT
A case was opened against 10 defendants, including the fish restaurant operator, shop owners, and responsible parties, for 'causing death and injury through conscious negligence' and 'causing death and injury through negligence.' A prison sentence of 2 to 22.5 years is being sought for the defendants.
Today, the trial held at the Konya 3rd High Criminal Court was attended via SEGBİS by fish operator Kazım Fünlü, who is imprisoned for another crime. Defendants Volkan D. and Mehmet P. were present in the courtroom.
Defendant Kazım Fünlü stated, "I did not give any instructions to anyone regarding opening doors between the shops. I was in an open prison during the construction process, and all my communication was via phone." Volkan D. denied the accusations, claiming he bore no responsibility for the incident. Mehmet P. also requested the removal of the judicial control decision against him.
WALLS BELOW STANDARDS
The court panel noted that the expert report identified that the basement walls were constructed below standards, emphasizing that this situation was among the factors increasing the likelihood of collapse. The panel also decided to prepare an additional expert report regarding the structure of the ground where the building is located and the water installation.
The trial was postponed to March 24, 2026.
