The increasing pressure from U.S. President Donald Trump is tightening the noose around Cuba. Cuban Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio announced that they are making military preparations in the face of a possible attack from the U.S.

Cuba's Deputy Foreign Minister Carlos Fernandez de Cossio announced that they are making military preparations against a possible attack that could come from the United States.

"WE ARE MAKING MILITARY PREPARATIONS AGAINST A POSSIBLE ATTACK FROM THE UNITED STATES"

Speaking to NBC News, Fernandez de Cossio stated that they do not pose a "definite" threat to the United States, and therefore, there is no legitimate justification for the embargo imposed on the island nation and military threats.

Addressing the possibility of a military attack from the United States, Fernandez de Cossio expressed: "Our armed forces are always prepared. In fact, they are currently continuing their preparations against the possibility of a military attack. Our country is always ready to mobilize as a nation in the face of a military attack. To be honest, we see this as a very distant possibility. We do not find it likely to happen, but if we do not prepare for it, we would be naive."

Fernandez de Cossio stated that Cuba is a peaceful country and is ready for any dialogue to sit down with the United States.

"WE HOPE THE EMBARGO WILL NOT LAST FOREVER AND WILL NOT BE PERMANENT"

Addressing the difficulties caused by the U.S. embargo, Fernandez de Cossio said, "This is a very serious situation, and we are acting as actively as possible to cope with the current conditions. We hope this embargo will not last forever and will not be permanent."

Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel stated in a statement on March 13 that the island nation has not been able to receive oil from abroad for about 3 months, adding that the electricity system is currently being maintained only with solar energy, natural gas, and existing thermal power plants.

U.S. OIL EMBARGO ON CUBA

On January 30, U.S. President Donald Trump signed a presidential decree imposing customs duties on all goods coming from countries that sell or supply oil to Cuba. The White House argued that this decision aims to protect U.S. national security and foreign policy interests against Cuba's "harmful actions and policies." On February 1, Trump announced that talks had begun regarding the regulation of oil supply with the Cuban government, which Cuba denied. The government had activated an emergency package to survive without oil coming from abroad.
