PARTIES FAILED TO REACH A MAJORITY IN PARLIAMENT

The Social Democrats, who have been in power since 2019, secured 38 seats in the parliament in yesterday's general elections, but they did not reach a majority for a single-party government. The red bloc formed by the Social Democrats and the Green Left Party won a total of 84 seats in parliament. The blue bloc, consisting of the Liberal Party (Venstre), the Danish People's Party, the Liberal Alliance Party, and the Conservative People's Party, remained at 77 seats. Neither bloc was able to reach the 90 seats required for a majority in Denmark's 179-seat parliament. The centrist party Moderates, which is expected to play a key role in coalition talks, also secured 14 seats.

ELECTION UNDER THE SHADOW OF THE US'S GREENLAND NARRATIVES

The most significant issue keeping Denmark in the global spotlight before the elections was President Trump's rhetoric about "taking over" Greenland. Denmark had stated that their sovereignty was a "red line" against Trump's threats to take the autonomous region of Greenland, which is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Recently, it was revealed that Denmark was making serious military preparations against a possible US attack by sending troops to Greenland. It is also stated that the two representatives elected from Greenland to the Danish Parliament will play an important role against potential narratives from the US.
