After the investigation regarding the DNA analysis of Cem Garipoğlu, who committed suicide in prison in 2014 after killing Münevver Karabulut 15 years ago in Istanbul, has been completed. Following the determination that the samples taken from Garipoğlu's opened grave matched those of his father and mother, a decision of non-prosecution was made in the relevant investigation. The decision reminded that the suspect Garipoğlu committed suicide in prison on October 10, 2014, and noted that the complainant's lawyer submitted a complaint petition on August 17, 2023. The decision recalled that the petition stated, "It is unknown whether the suspect is dead or has escaped, there are doubts that the suspect is alive and has been abducted by his family, and there have been rumors in the public for years in this regard," and requested that an investigation be initiated. In response, it was stated in the decision that on September 26, it was decided to carry out the exhumation process within the scope of the ongoing investigation, and a directive was sent to the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which is authorized regarding the location of the grave, and it was noted that the findings obtained from the grave were sent to the Istanbul Forensic Medicine Institution. The decision stated that current blood and oral swab samples were taken from Cem Garipoğlu's mother Tülay and father Mehmet Nida Garipoğlu, and that the findings obtained from the grave were compared with the family's samples by the Forensic Medicine Institution's Biology Specialization Department. The decision included a report prepared as a result of the process, stating that the bone and dental samples sent could belong to Tülay and Mehmet Nida Garipoğlu's "joint child." The decision emphasized that it was confirmed by the report of the Forensic Medicine Institution's Biology Specialization Department that the person buried in the grave was Cem Garipoğlu, and it was stated that there was no basis for prosecution. WHAT HAPPENED?The dismembered body of Münevver Karabulut, who was murdered in a villa in Bahçeşehir, was found in a trash container in Etiler on March 3, 2009. The Bakırköy 4th Heavy Penal Court sentenced Cem Garipoğlu to 24 years in prison on November 18, 2011, for killing Münevver Karabulut. Garipoğlu committed suicide in Silivri No. 5 Prison on October 10, 2014. After the autopsy, Garipoğlu's body was buried, and DNA samples taken from the family matched that person. Later, Karabulut's father, Süreyya Karabulut, requested the opening of Garipoğlu's grave from the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, which accepted the request and sent a directive to the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office for the exhumation process to be carried out. After the "exhumation" process carried out on October 3, the Silivri Chief Public Prosecutor's Office reported that the samples taken from Cem Garipoğlu's grave belonged to his father Mehmet Nida and mother Tülay Makbule's joint child Cem Garipoğlu, and that this person had the same DNA profile as the individual determined to have committed suicide in 2014 after an autopsy.
