The first hearing of manager Ayşe Barım, who is being tried on the charge of "aiding an attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey" as part of the investigation into the Gezi Park protests, was held at the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court. Barım, who denied all charges, was ordered to remain in custody. Following the decision, famous figures who attended the hearing left the courthouse in tears.
The first hearing of the case against actress manager Ayşe Barım, who is being tried on the charge of "aiding an attempt to overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey" with the allegation of directing the Gezi Park protests, was held today at the Istanbul 26th High Criminal Court. The court panel decided to continue Barım's detention. The hearing was postponed to October 1.
Barım, who was arrested on January 27 on the same charges, appeared before the judge for the first time. Emotional moments were experienced during the hearing, and Barım, in tears, denied all the accusations in her defense. "I did not direct anyone. I am not their boss; I am their manager. I meet with my actors every day; it is part of my duty. I went there when I saw them there. I was there with the same stance as during the July 15 rally or the February 6 earthquake," Barım claimed, asserting that she was merely fulfilling her duty.
"I WANT MY RIGHT TO LIVE BACK"
Pointing out her health condition, Barım also conveyed the problems she faced in prison to the court panel. Stating that she has six different ailments in her heart and a brain aneurysm, Barım said, "I am bruised all over. Please let me, I just want to live healthily. I want my right to live back," she expressed. Barım also emphasized that pre-operative tests were not conducted under prison conditions, stating that her health is at serious risk.
PROSECUTION REQUESTED CONTINUATION OF DETENTION
The prosecution requested the continuation of Barım's detention. The court panel accepted this request and decided that Barım should remain in prison. The next hearing will be held on October 1.
TEARS FLOWED
Among the names who came to the courthouse to watch the hearing were actors Serenay Sarıkaya, Merve Dizdar, Hande Erçel, Halit Ergenç, Bergüzar Korel, Metin Akdülger, Zerrin Tekindor, Ezgi Mola, Selma Ergeç, and Hakan Kurtaş. It was observed that the famous individuals leaving the courtroom were upset, and some artists could not hold back their tears.
