Halil Karaaslan, who has been blacksmithing for years in Özsan Industrial Site, noted that they could not keep up with the increased demand for work following the earthquakes on February 6, 2023, which are referred to as the disaster of the century. Expressing that the city has almost turned into a construction site after the earthquakes, Karaaslan said, "Malatya is being rebuilt, our workload is very high, but we cannot find skilled workers and apprentices to employ."
THEY CANNOT MEET THE INCREASING DEMAND FOR WORK
Pointing out that there are not enough apprentices being trained, Karaaslan stated that the profession is no longer preferred by young people, saying, "Crafts that require manual skills, like blacksmithing, are not attracting interest as they used to.
