Mustafa Destici, the leader of the Great Unity Party, responded to the statements of Tuncer Bakırhan, co-chairman of the DEM Party, regarding the amendment of Article 66 of the Constitution, emphasizing that this article is indispensable for the unity of Turkey. Destici stated, "This article and this definition are the guarantee of what makes us a nation, the survival of our state, the integrity of our country, and the unity of our people. It cannot be changed and even its subject cannot be discussed."
Great Unity Party (BBP) Chairman Mustafa Destici strongly reacted to the statements of DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan regarding Article 66 of the Constitution. Destici emphasized that the mentioned article is "the guarantee of the unity of the nation" and that it cannot be changed.
"IT CANNOT EVEN BE DISCUSSED"
In a written statement on his social media account, Destici addressed the discussions regarding the provision in Article 66 of the Constitution, which states, "Everyone who is bound to the Republic of Turkey by citizenship is a Turk."
Destici expressed that this article is one of the fundamental characteristics of the Republic of Turkey, stating, "This article and this definition are the guarantee of our nation, the survival of our state, and the integrity of our country. It cannot be changed and cannot even be discussed."
"THE NAME OF OUR STATE IS THE REPUBLIC OF TURKEY"
In his statement, Destici noted that the name of the state and the nation is under constitutional protection, saying, "The name of our state is the Republic of Turkey. The name of our nation is also the Turkish Nation."
In his message regarding the discussions, Destici argued that the current constitutional definition should be preserved.
