As the temperature in Adana, one of Turkey's hottest provinces, exceeded 50 degrees, citizens flocked to the highlands. While the city experienced calmness, the population in the Pozantı district, which is 20,000 in winter, reached 400,000 to 450,000.
According to the data from the General Directorate of Meteorology, the air temperature in the central districts of Adana has exceeded 40 degrees. However, the perceived temperature, along with humidity, has reached 52 degrees. As a result, especially the elderly have gone to the highlands and beaches. The streets and avenues across the city have become almost empty.
POPULATION EXPLOSION IN THE HIGHLANDS
In Pozantı district, which has a population of 20,000 and is located at the foot of the Taurus Mountains, the population has reached 400-450 thousand due to the hot weather.

Pozantı Mayor Ali Avan stated, "Our Pozantı district is known as the highland of Adana and Mersin. With its cool air and green nature, this place is a preferred destination. While there is serious heat in Mersin and Adana, it is very cool here. There is highland tourism. We have a population of 20,000, but currently, our population has reached 400-450 thousand. This place is a reason for preference for everyone," he said.
"THE DISTRICT HAS BECOME A CENTER OF ATTRACTION"
Emphasizing that Pozantı has become a center of attraction for those escaping the heat, Avan said, "4-5 neighborhoods of our district consist only of highlanders. It is currently a center of attraction. There are seasonal market vendors here. We sometimes experience water shortages, but we will address this over time. We receive a share from the Iller Bank for a population of 20,000. It is difficult to serve a population of 400-450 thousand with this, but we continue to provide services by creating resources with additional sources," he said.
"WE CAME HERE AS A FAMILY"
Fikret Çolaklıoğlu (60), who came to the highlands to escape the heat of Adana, said, "We came here to escape the heat of Adana. I have a heart condition, and we come here every year. Since I am affected by the heat, we came here as a family. It gets more crowded here on weekends," he said.

Ahmet Zaimoğlu (58), who came from Adana, said, "We came here to escape the heat of Adana. The weather here is very good, and we are satisfied with our lives. Our highland is very beautiful, cool, and very nice," he said.
"WE PREFER THE HIGHLAND"
Merve Gidiş (35), who came from Mersin to Pozantı, said, "We came here after being overwhelmed by the heat of Mersin. We invite everyone here. We prefer the highland over the sea of Mersin," she said.
