Turkey will be under the influence of scorching heat again next week. The second wave of African and Basra heat is expected to reach the country on Monday and Tuesday.
BOTH HEAT AND HUMIDITY
With the impact of this extreme heat wave known as Eyyam-ı Bahur, both high temperatures and oppressive humidity are predicted to increase. The weather forecasting organization Hava Forum warned that especially during this period, liquid consumption should be increased and prolonged exposure to sunlight should be avoided. It is also noted that the effect of föhn winds will continue, which will further raise the perceived temperature.
PRECAUTIONS AGAINST HOT WEATHER
- Drink Plenty of Fluids: Drinking enough water throughout the day helps maintain body temperature. Avoid beverages that increase water loss, such as coffee and carbonated drinks.
- Avoid Going Outside During Peak Sun Hours: Try to stay in the shade as much as possible, especially between 11:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
- Wear a Hat and Sunglasses: If you need to be outside, choose a wide-brimmed hat and light-colored, loose-fitting clothing.
- Use Sunscreen: High SPF sunscreens reduce skin burns and the harmful effects of the sun.
- Stay in Cool Environments: Utilize cooling devices like air conditioning or fans, and do not neglect ventilation in enclosed spaces.
- Eat Light and Balanced Meals: Avoid fatty and heavy meals, and focus on a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
- Extra Precautions for the Elderly and Children: Vulnerable groups such as infants, children, and the elderly can be affected more quickly by hot weather. Ensure they stay hydrated and in cool environments.
- Limit Physical Activity: Try to engage in sports and heavy activities in the early morning or during the coolness of the evening.
