The Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Öncü Keçeli, stated, "We are concerned about the attacks carried out yesterday on the commercial tankers 'KAIROS' and 'VIRAT' flying the Gambian flag in the Black Sea."
In the early hours of the morning, the oil tanker named "Virat," which was hit off the coast of the Black Sea yesterday evening, was also attacked by unmanned sea vehicles. The personnel on the foreign-flagged vessel had rejected the evacuation request.
STATEMENT FROM TURKEY: WE ARE CONCERNED
Foreign Minister Keçeli made a statement regarding the attacks on the two commercial vessels in the Black Sea.
Keçeli said, "We are concerned about the attacks carried out yesterday on the commercial tankers 'KAIROS' and 'VIRAT' flying the Gambian flag in the Black Sea. These incidents occurring within our Exclusive Economic Zone in the Black Sea pose serious risks in terms of navigation, life, property, and environmental safety in the region. We are continuing our contacts with the relevant parties to prevent the spread of the war to the Black Sea and its escalation, as well as to ensure that our country's economic interests and activities in the region are not adversely affected."
WHAT HAPPENED?
Yesterday evening, two tankers named KAIRO and VIRAT belonging to Russia's "Shadow Fleet" were attacked off the coast of the Black Sea.
It was announced that the attack was carried out by a joint operation of the Ukrainian security service and the Ukrainian navy.
