After the incident where a father was assaulted in front of his children on the Marmaray in Istanbul, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül stated, "Exposing every crime on social media, openly targeting individuals, and fueling a lynch culture undermines public order, wounds the conscience of society, and creates legal and moral responsibilities. The state is not governed by social media."
The assault on a father with his children on the Marmaray has become a national topic, and discussions regarding the incident continue.
GOVERNOR GÜL'S ATTENTION-GRABBING WARNING
Istanbul Governor Davut Gül also made notable warnings following the incident on his social media account.
In a statement on his social media account, Governor Gül said, "Istanbul, with a population of approximately 16 million, is a metropolis larger than more than 130 countries that are members of the United Nations. In such a large and dynamic city, isolated crimes may occur from time to time. What is important is to take protective and preventive measures to prevent these crimes and for the relevant institutions to act immediately and do what is necessary when an incident occurs."
"EXPOSING EVERY CRIME ON SOCIAL MEDIA UNDERMINES PUBLIC ORDER"
In the continuation of his statement, Istanbul Governor said, "Whether it is reflected on social media or not; our security units are on duty 24/7 against anyone who disturbs the peace of our citizens.
Exposing every crime on social media, openly targeting individuals, and fueling a lynch culture undermines public order, wounds the conscience of society, and also creates legal and moral responsibilities. The state punishes the offender. The place of justice is not social media, but courtrooms."
"THE STATE IS NOT GOVERNED BY SOCIAL MEDIA"
The state is not governed by social media. Security, justice, and public order are ensured not by personal reactions, but by constitutional institutions. It is our common duty to maintain social peace. We must act with common sense, responsibility, and awareness of the rule of law," he stated.
