WHO IS ALTAN ÖYMEN?
Altan Öymen is a Turkish journalist, writer, and politician. He was born on June 20, 1932, in Istanbul. He graduated from Ankara University Faculty of Political Sciences. He started his journalism career in the 1950s. He worked for many years as a writer, reporter, and manager in various newspapers and magazines. He stood out particularly with his writings in the fields of politics and economics. He worked for important newspapers such as Milliyet, Cumhuriyet, and Akşam. He is also one of the founders of the Anka News Agency.
He entered politics by being elected as a member of parliament for the first time in the 1965 elections. He served as a member of parliament during different periods. In 1977, he served as the Minister of Tourism and Promotion. His most well-known political role was as the Chairman of the Republican People's Party (CHP) from 1997 to 1999.
