Former Co-Chair of the Human Rights Association's İzmir Branch, Lawyer Ali Aydın, lost his life due to an attack he suffered while taking a morning walk in the Çiğli district of İzmir. A suspect has been detained in connection with the incident.
Former Co-Chair of the Human Rights Association İzmir Branch, Lawyer Ali Aydın, lost his life as a result of an attack he suffered while taking a morning walk in the Çiğli district of İzmir.
An investigation has been initiated regarding the incident. It has been learned that Aydın's lifeless body was taken to the Buca Forensic Medicine Institution. A suspect related to the incident has been detained.
STATEMENT FROM THE HUMAN RIGHTS ASSOCIATION
The Human Rights Association made the following statement regarding the attack:
"We are very saddened... Our friend Lawyer Ali Aydın, who served as Co-Chair of the İHD İzmir Branch and Regional Representative of İHD in the past, has lost his life today as a result of the attack he suffered."
The incident is being followed by our lawyer friends who are members of İHD and the İzmir Bar Association. After the details of the incident are clarified, the necessary information will be shared with the public in accordance with the principle of investigation confidentiality. We extend our condolences to his family, relatives, and human rights defenders."
STATEMENT FROM İZMİR POLICE
The İzmir Provincial Police Department made a statement regarding the incident.
The statement included the following expressions:
''On January 14, 2026, in the morning hours, a lifeless body belonging to a male individual was found in a mountainous area in the Evka-2 region of the Çiğli district. It has been determined that the victim of the incident is A.A. (born in 1957 – retired teacher, freelance lawyer). As a result of comprehensive studies initiated on the subject, it has been identified that the suspect of the incident is M.D.E. (born in 1996), and the individual was quickly apprehended by police teams. It has been learned that the suspect admitted to committing the crime during the initial interview regarding the incident and stated that the incident occurred under the influence of drugs/stimulants. The judicial investigation regarding the incident is continuing in multiple directions.'
