France's Macron Urges Resumption Of Mideast Peace Talks

French President Emmanuel Macron on Sunday urged restart of the stalled talks between Israel and Palestine based on a two-state solution.

Speaking to reporters after meeting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Paris, Macron said France is ready to lead any diplomatic move to renew the talks.

"I call for the resumption of the peace talks between Israel and Palestine, based on a two-state solution," said Macron.

Macron said negotiations should be carried out in line with international law and must be followed by both sides.

In his remarks, the French president also voiced concern over new Israeli settlement construction.

Peace talks between Israeli and Palestinian under the U.S. mediation collapsed in April 2014 over Israel's refusal to release Palestinian prisoners despite earlier pledges to do so.

Since then, all attempts to revive negotiations have failed, due mainly to Israel's insistence on continuing settlement construction on occupied Arab land. -
