In Bursa, 75-year-old Hasan Akgül experienced panic when he got off the municipal bus after returning from the hospital and did not see his 68-year-old wife, Saadet Akgül, beside him. Due to the crowd, Akgül had forgotten his wife on the bus, and his panic was captured on video by his grandson, Gürhan Akgül, using his mobile phone. The heartwarming dialogue between the grandfather and grandson was also reflected in the footage.
Hasan Akgül, who lives in the Emek neighborhood of Osmangazi district, took his wife Saadet Akgül, who has diabetes and hypertension, to Bursa City Hospital for routine check-ups on April 25. The couple also took their grandson Gürhan Akgül with them to help.
After the examination procedures were completed, the couple boarded a municipal bus to return home with their grandson. When they arrived at the Emek stop, the grandfather and grandson got off the bus. However, Saadet Akgül was unable to reach the door due to the crowd and remained on the bus. When Hasan Akgül turned around and did not see his wife next to him, he panicked, while his grandson recorded the moments with his cellphone camera. The dialogue between Hasan Akgül and his grandson, who was walking back and forth on the street, was also captured in the footage.
"OH MY GOD, I'M GOING CRAZY"
In response to Gürhan Akgül's question, "Grandpa, where is grandma?" Hasan Akgül replied, "For God's sake, don't do this, did she get off? Oh my God, I'm going crazy, I swear I'm going crazy. Don't laugh, son, don't laugh," to which Gürhan Akgül said, "Call her, tell her to get off," and Hasan Akgül, panicking, hit his head and said, "Where will she get off, son? She won't get off anywhere. This bus is going somewhere else." The moments when Saadet Akgül got off the bus at the next stop and reunited with her husband were also included in the footage.
"THE MORE HE LAUGHED, THE MORE I GOT NERVOUS"
Describing his experience, Hasan Akgül said, "We went to the City Hospital for a check-up. My wife has diabetes and hypertension. We had her examined. We got on the municipal bus from the City Hospital to come to Emek in Bursa. The bus was extremely crowded. It was overly crowded. I had taken my grandson with me to help while going to the hospital. Just as we arrived at Emek, we got off because it was so crowded. My wife got stuck in the middle. She couldn't get outside because of the crowd. In the meantime, the bus moved. I told my grandson, 'The bus left,' and he was laughing. The more he laughed, the more my nerves got frayed. While I was saying, 'Don't do that,' I must have hit my forehead like this. I said, 'Son, don't do that. Your grandmother doesn't know left from right. She won't be able to get off; she doesn't know the stops.' We called, and we reached her by phone. The next stop was the Sanayi stop. I said, 'You wait there.' She got off at the stop, thank God. She got off at the next stop. I was curious because she didn't know. I saw her standing at the stop across the street. I waved. It's such a thing that she doesn't get on the elevator alone. She has to have someone with her. I waved and all, but she didn't get on the elevator. I went, picked her up, and we brought her home; thank God," he said.
"I NEVER FORGOT MY WIFE BEFORE"
Hasan Akgül said, "He made us experience such an adventure, thanks to my grandson. I didn't realize he was recording a video. He keeps laughing. I said, 'Son, don't laugh. Your grandmother is still on the bus. She won't know where she went. Don't laugh, son.' He was laughing to himself." He mentioned that they sometimes have forgetfulness but said it was the first time he forgot his wife, stating, "I have forgetfulness. I never forgot my wife before; I forgot her here for the first time. We have been married for 45 years; we love each other. She got mad at me; doesn't she ever? She said, 'You left me; why aren't you paying attention? I thought you would come to me.' Her sulking lasted quite a while, but it passed. It came and went," he said.
