The forest fire that broke out in the Buca district of Izmir continues on its second day. Teams responding to the fire found themselves caught in the flames. In the footage, one firefighter can be heard saying, "This place has become hell," while another tries to calm his colleagues by saying, "Don't be afraid." In scenes that depict a desperate struggle for survival, firefighters were heard telling each other, "If we are going to die, we will die together."

A fire broke out yesterday around 16:00 in the forest near Zafer Neighborhood in the Buca district of İzmir. In response to the notification, 3 planes, 3 helicopters, 16 fire trucks, 3 water supply vehicles, and 1 bulldozer from the İzmir Regional Directorate of Forestry were dispatched to the area to intervene in the fire. The fire spread to the Sarnıç area of Gaziemir and also to the Kısık Neighborhood of Menderes. As a result, the İzmir-Aydın Highway was closed to traffic in both directions between the Airport Junction-Kısıkköy area and between the highway airport toll booths and Buca Junction last night.

HOBBY GARDENS EVACUATED, SKY COVERED WITH SMOKE

Due to the flames approaching residential areas, some hobby gardens in Yıldızlar Neighborhood and the surrounding area were evacuated as a precaution. After dark, the intervention continued from the ground, while the sky was covered with smoke due to the fire that lasted throughout the night. Additionally, fire crews from many provinces such as Bursa, Manisa, Kayseri, and Denizli came to assist in the firefighting efforts.

2 SUSPECTS DETAINED

Meanwhile, within the scope of the investigation launched, 2 suspects were detained yesterday for allegedly causing the fire while working with a spiral machine in the area. It was determined that sparks from the machine spread to the garbage in the area, and the flames jumped from there to the forest due to the wind. It was reported that the suspects' processing is ongoing.

TEAMS CAUGHT BETWEEN FLAMES

Moments when the teams intervening in the fire were caught between the flames were captured on a mobile phone. The footage showed forest workers working with great dedication, caught in the midst of intense flames inside a fire truck, struggling to escape. The panic experienced by the teams was also heard in the footage.

One of the firefighters caught between the flames was heard saying, "This place has become hell," while another shouted, "Close the window," and tried to calm his friends by saying, "Don't be afraid."

Additionally, while the ground teams continued their work throughout the night, aerial intervention resumed with 4 planes and 11 helicopters as the day broke.
