In Nepal, former rap artist Balendra Shah announced his candidacy for prime minister in the general elections scheduled for March 2026. According to a report by the Bombay Samachar newspaper, citing BBC Nepali, Balendra Shah, who serves as the Mayor of Kathmandu, will compete for the prime ministership.
Shah formed an alliance with the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) under a 7-point agreement they signed for the general elections planned for March 5, 2026.
GENERAL ELECTIONS WILL BE HELD ON MARCH 5, 2026
According to the terms of the agreement, Shah will be the parliamentary group leader and prime ministerial candidate, while Rabi Lamichhane, the president of the RSP and former deputy prime minister, will continue to lead the party. In Nepal, which has a population of approximately 30 million, general elections will be held on March 5, 2026, to elect 275 members to the House of Representatives.
PROTESTS IN NEPAL
This year, on September 4, the government blocked Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, YouTube, X, and other social media platforms, citing the lack of license applications. This decision led to large and violent protests led by the youth. Seventy-four people lost their lives during the demonstrations.
