According to the data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), in the first month of the year, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 4.84%, while the annual increase was 30.65%. The inflation rate announced last month for December was 0.89%.

HIGHEST INCREASE IN FOOD

The monthly changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were; an increase of 6.59% in food and non-alcoholic beverages, an increase of 5.29% in transportation, and an increase of 4.43% in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.

The contributions of the relevant main groups to the monthly change were 1.61 for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 0.88 for transportation, and 0.51 percentage points for housing.

The annual changes in the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight were; an increase of 31.69% in food and non-alcoholic beverages, an increase of 29.39% in transportation, and an increase of 45.36% in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels. The contributions of the relevant main expenditure groups to the annual change were 7.82 for food and non-alcoholic beverages, 4.64 for transportation, and 6.74 percentage points for housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels.

INFLATION INCREASED BY 0.89 IN DECEMBER

The CPI increased by 0.89% on a monthly basis in December 2025, while the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI) increased by 0.75%. The annual inflation was recorded as 30.89% in consumer prices and 27.67% in domestic producer prices.

RENT INCREASE RATE HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED

With the announcement of inflation, the rent increase rate for homes and workplaces has also been determined. Accordingly, the rent increase rate for February is highlighted as 33.98%. Last month, the increase rate was 34.88%.

PENSIONERS' FIRST INCREASE RATE HAS BEEN CLARIFIED

Pensioners are entitled to an increase equal to the monthly inflation of 4.84% for January. The full increase rate is expected to be determined after the inflation figures for February, March, April, May, and June are announced.

CENTRAL BANK HAS DRAWN ATTENTION

The Central Bank emphasized the high inflation in January. The Central Bank stated that preliminary data indicated that the monthly consumer inflation in January increased led by food, while the increase in the main trend was limited.

WHAT DOES THE CENTRAL BANK EXPECT AT THE END OF THE YEAR?

The Central Bank's inflation forecast range for the end of 2026 is at the level of 13-19%. The interim inflation target for 2026 and 2027 has been set at 16% and 9%, respectively.

The Central Bank can update the forecast range at inflation report meetings held every three months. The interim targets are not changed unless there are extraordinary circumstances.
