DEMİRCAN: PERMANENT RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN COUNTRIES CAN BE ESTABLISHED THROUGH EDUCATION
The Turkish Ambassador to Tunisia, Ahmet Misbah Demircan, stated in an interview with Anadolu Agency at the fair that educational diplomacy is one of the strongest aspects of bilateral relations: Demircan said, "Turkey is currently hosting over 370,000 international students. Permanent relationships between countries can be established through education."
The ambassador expressed that Turkey has become a quality, economical, and safe education center in its region. Speaking from the podium at the opening of the fair, Demircan noted that students who study at Turkish universities become Turkey's "ambassadors of goodwill" when they return to their countries: "Especially in African countries, there are many young people who study in Turkey and come to hold influential positions in their own countries. These young people strengthen the cultural and economic ties between us."
"TUNISIA HAS STRATEGIC IMPORTANCE FOR TURKEY"
Prof. Dr. Nihat İnanç, the Rector of Haliç University, stated in an interview with Anadolu Agency at the fair that Tunisia has strategic importance for Turkey, saying, "Over 25,000 Tunisian students are studying abroad, but only 10% choose Turkey. We need to increase this rate." Prof. İnanç mentioned that universities could establish an academic bridge between the two countries by increasing collaborations in this area.
Prof. Dr. Yaşar Hacısalihoğlu, the Rector of Istanbul Yeni Yüzyıl University, stated that there are nearly 300 Tunisian students at his university and expressed: "These young people are not only gaining professions but are also being raised as individuals who share our common values and take responsibility for humanity."
Hacısalihoğlu also drew attention to the events in Gaza, stating that education is the guarantee of peace and justice. Hacısalihoğlu said, "A generation that can stand against the oppressor can only be raised with a strong conscience and education."
Ufuk University (Ankara) representative Assoc. Dr. Çağlar Doğru stated that the event created an important platform to convey Turkey's education quality: "The educational aspect of the relations between Turkey and Tunisia is felt very clearly here. The intense interest of students in the booths is a sign of trust in Turkish universities." He emphasized that Ufuk University's participation in the fair is meaningful in terms of both promoting Turkey and academic collaborations.
