The first reaction to the customs duty decision announced by U.S. President Donald Trump yesterday came from Iran. Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Baghaei emphasized that these sanctions are illegal, stating, "The Iranian people have long faced severe economic pressure from the U.S. and some of its allies. This situation is a sign of the hostility that has now become permanent against Iran's existence in the U.S."
US President Donald Trump announced yesterday that countries doing business with Iran will pay a 25% customs duty in their trade with the US.
FIRST REACTION TO SANCTION DECISION FROM IRAN
Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ismail Bakayi reacted to the US decision to increase customs tariffs on countries trading with Iran.
Bakayi criticized the US decision to raise customs tariffs on countries trading with Iran, stating, "The Iranian people have long faced severe economic pressure from the US and some allies. This situation is a sign of the hostility that has now become permanent against Iran's existence in the US."
"THESE DECISIONS ARE ILLEGAL"
Emphasizing that the US sanctions against the Tehran administration are illegal, Bakayi noted that the sanctions contradict the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter and international law.
CALL TO THE UNITED NATIONS
Pointing out that the US decision to increase customs duties will negatively affect international trade, Bakayi called on the United Nations to uphold international law. Bakayi also expressed that the Iranian people will continue to move forward with great determination despite all sanctions.
