The situation in Iraq has become chaotic. The US military launched an attack on the headquarters of the Hashd al-Shaabi militias south of Kirkuk, while Iran-aligned groups struck the US's Victoria base at Baghdad Airport with 4 suicide drones.
Explosions occurred in succession in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
ATTACK ON US BASE
According to local Iraqi media, it was claimed that the US base at Baghdad International Airport and the US diplomatic support office were targeted. The US Victoria Base in Baghdad is frequently attacked by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
Images of an attack on Victoria Base carried out by Iran-backed Shia militia forces using an FPV drone were released. Iraqi authorities have not yet made any statement regarding the sounds of the explosions.
HASHD SHABI HEADQUARTERS HIT
Additionally, the US military launched an attack on the headquarters of the Iran-supported Hashd Shabi militias in Iraq. Smoke was seen rising from the headquarters after the attack.
HEZBOLLAH COMMANDER KILLED
Meanwhile, it was reported that Abu Ali al-Amiri, a commander of the armed Shia militia group Ketaib Hezbollah known for its closeness to Iran, was killed in an airstrike on his home in the capital Baghdad. Kays Hazali, the leader of the Iraqi Shia militia group Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq Movement, stated in a written statement that in addition to Amiri, some members of the group were also killed in the attack in Baghdad.
Hazali expressed that "the blood of the dead will not be in vain and this will turn into great anger in the future," describing the attack as "treacherous." An airstrike was carried out on a house in the Arasat neighborhood of Baghdad during the night. It was claimed that the targeted house belonged to Amiri, a commander of Ketaib Hezbollah.
After the attack, the area around the house was surrounded by Hashd Shabi intelligence forces, as well as Iraqi police and military forces, and those attacked in the house were taken to the hospital by ambulance. Ketaib Hezbollah held a funeral ceremony in Baghdad for its 3 deceased members.
