ABOUT SHIP SALE ALLEGATIONS
The Ministry of National Defense responded to the ship sale allegations with the following statements:
"The Turkish Armed Forces are monitoring and evaluating all developments in the world and in our region, and are making plans to ensure that they acquire the platforms and systems they need for defense and security in a complete manner, both in terms of quantity and quality.
The planning of our shipbuilding activities is carried out in coordination with the Presidency of Defense Industries, with a strategy aimed at creating a sustainable shipbuilding ecosystem by prioritizing the needs of our Naval Forces, developing our shipbuilding infrastructure, and evaluating export opportunities.
In this context, the construction of 39 ships is ongoing simultaneously in our shipyards, which is a concrete indication of our country's determination to develop and renew its naval power with domestic and national platforms. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between TAIS Shipyards and Qatar-based Barzan Holdings for the construction of two corvettes of the stealth class at the DIMDEX-2026 fair held in Qatar. The memorandum, which includes the supply of Turkish maritime systems for Qatar and third countries, is not a finalized agreement and does not contain any provisions regarding the construction and delivery schedule of the ships. Therefore, the claims in the press do not reflect the truth. Except for statements to be made by official authorities, claims, comments, and news should not be trusted.
As a result, the security, sovereignty, and rights and interests of our country at sea are being protected to the maximum extent; every step taken in this direction is meticulously planned and implemented in line with military needs, national interests, and long-term strategic goals."
