Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş commented on the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu in connection with a corruption investigation. Yavaş stated, "We are ashamed for the sake of our legal system."
The Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem İmamoğlu, was arrested in the corruption investigation against the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, while he was released under judicial control in the "city reconciliation" investigation.
"ALL STATEMENTS HAVE BEEN LEAKED TO THE PUBLIC"
There was also a quick reaction from Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara, regarding İmamoğlu's arrest. Yavaş stated to reporters, "We waited until 6:30. Both the prolongation of the process and the fact that we set out to vote here. We came without sleeping, and we just received this news. We are ashamed for our legal system. Because during the trial, we saw that there is a concept of confidentiality in the investigation, but the statement there was almost served to all of Turkey five minutes later. All statements have been leaked to the public. These should have been kept confidential.
"FOREIGN CAPITAL HAS STARTED TO WITHDRAW"
Another issue is that we watched the accusations on TV that the lawyers could not access, which shows how political the matter is. İmamoğlu's obstruction is shameful for our country. Publications have also been made worldwide questioning democracy and the legal system in Turkey. This has returned to us as more poverty. This is an evil. Foreign capital has started to withdraw. I was glad that a trustee was not appointed.
"THIS COUNTRY MUST GET RID OF REVENGE LAW"
There is no indictment, only allegations are present. Based on the claims of a secret witness. Could there be such a question, you have talked a lot with this person… Moreover, some of them are also hurtful, is there anyone in your family connected to terrorism? If so, you will see it anyway! What kind of questions are these! This country must also get rid of revenge law. A judicial system that will act impartially needs to be established," he stated.
