It is being discussed that Mansur Yavaş, the Mayor of Ankara, who drew all attention by deciding not to participate in the primary election where the CHP will determine its presidential candidate, will collect 100,000 signatures to run as an independent candidate.
While discussions about early elections continue, the identity of the CHP's presidential candidate remains uncertain. As the CHP leadership decided to hold a primary to determine the candidate, the announcement by Ankara Metropolitan Mayor Mansur Yavaş, whose name was mentioned among the candidates, that he would not run in the primary after his meeting with CHP leader Özgür Özel and İBB President Ekrem İmamoğlu created a significant stir.
WHAT PATH WILL YAVAŞ FOLLOW?
Does his decision not to participate in the primary mean that Mansur Yavaş has given up on candidacy? Yavaş's close circle firmly denies this claim. In fact, it is said that Yavaş will closely monitor the upcoming polls and, if he emerges ahead of İmamoğlu, he will officially announce his candidacy for president.
THE IDEA OF INDEPENDENT CANDIDACY IS GAINING GROUND
It has been suggested that Mansur Yavaş, who was previously mentioned as a potential candidate for a coalition to be formed in the right bloc, has pushed this idea to the background and is considering running as an independent candidate by collecting 100,000 signatures. It is reported that Yavaş has consulted with his close circle about this thought and received the assurance, "We are with you in every way."
HE SAID "THE DAY WILL COME"
Yavaş, who has expressed his opposition to the primary to be held in the CHP at every opportunity, previously stated in an interview, "Is there such a thing? I just find the candidacy premature. The day will come, the harvest will come. Until that day, who will remain? First, let a date for the election be set, then we can talk more broadly."
IN THE LAST POLL, TIED WITH İMAMOĞLU
In a poll conducted by Piar Research between February 1-4 with 3,460 participants in 26 provinces, respondents were asked separately, "If Ekrem İmamoğlu and Mansur Yavaş were the CHP's presidential candidates, would you vote for them?" In the poll, when undecided voters were distributed, the proportion of those who said they would vote for İmamoğlu was 55.2%, while the proportion of those who preferred Yavaş was 53.8%.
