The beloved series "Mehmed: The Conqueror Sultan" on TRT screens took a short break from its intense shooting schedule to sample the legendary flavors of the Black Sea. The feast, featuring anchovies, kuymak, pide, and many other regional delicacies, became a scene of joyful moments, especially for the actors portraying the characters of Zağanos Paşa and Kurtçu Ağa.
The ambitious production of TRT, Mehmed: The Conqueror Sultan series team took a short break from their intense shooting marathon to explore the unique cuisine of the Black Sea. Sitting at a table filled with the region's centuries-old flavors, the team tasted many delicacies, from kuymak to anchovies, experiencing this richness unique to the Black Sea firsthand.
During their visit to the Black Sea, which they conducted as part of promotional and interview programs, the series team met with the region's traditional cuisine. The reactions of the actors tasting the dishes revealed warm and sincere moments experienced between shoots.
Sinan Albayrak, who plays Zağanoz Pasha, and Ali Sinan Demir, who plays Kurtçı Doğan, literally licked their fingers.
KUYMAK BECAME A FAVORITE
Kuymak, one of the iconic flavors of Black Sea cuisine, was one of the dishes that the team showed the most interest in. For kuymak, prepared with cornmeal, butter, and local cheese, one of the team members said,
"The smell of butter spreading on the first spoon makes you feel the nature of this place on the plate."
FRIED ANCHOVIES FOR FISH LOVERS
The favorite of the fish-loving actors was fried anchovies. The freshness of the crispy anchovies, which are coated in cornmeal and fried, received great appreciation from the team. The actors noted, "When the sea scent combines with lemon, it tastes like home-cooked food."
PIDE AND LAZ BUREK RECEIVED FULL MARKS
Other local delicacies, such as Black Sea pide, Laz böreği, and corn bread, also found their place on the table. Especially the hot pide freshly out of the stone oven was evaluated by the actors as "fresh and filling."
In post-meal conversations, team members expressed that Black Sea cuisine is not just food but a culture. The actors stated that these flavors gained more meaning along with the region's nature, people, and hospitality.
