In an operation carried out in the city of Liege, Belgium, parts of fighter jets and various military equipment were seized in 33 cargo units that were being prepared for illegal shipment to Israel. The operation was conducted thanks to a tip-off from a non-governmental organization.

Belgian authorities announced that military equipment intended to be sent to Israel illegally has been seized, with local media reporting that 33 cargo units were confiscated, including parts of fighter jets and various target detection elements as well as fire control components.

MILITARY EQUIPMENT DESTINED FOR ISRAEL SEIZED

A tip-off was made regarding a cargo company operating in the city of Liege in Belgium's Walloon region, which was allegedly transferring illegal military materials. Following this development, security forces conducted an operation at Liege Airport, where undeclared military equipment was detected by customs units, and the materials in question were seized.

The incident was reported by Vredesactie, a non-governmental organization (NGO) operating in Belgium's Flanders region. These developments were also confirmed by the Prime Minister of Belgium's Walloon Region, Adrien Dolimont.

LICENSES NOT GRANTED FOR CARGOES PROVIDING MILITARY SUPPORT TO ISRAEL

In a statement regarding the issue, Walloon Region Prime Minister Adrien Dolimont said, "We acted quickly upon the tip-off from Vredesactie. As soon as we received the warning, we contacted customs within two hours and the packages were blocked."

Dolimont emphasized that the policy towards Israel is clear, stating, "Under current conditions, we are not granting licenses for any equipment that would strengthen Israel's military capacity."

Noting that such illegal shipping attempts are not new, Dolimont pointed out that similar shipments passing through Liege had been detected before, stressing that it is not always easy to distinguish military products from civilian materials.

"33 CARGO UNITS SEIZED"

According to reports in the Belgian media, it was stated that in the mentioned raid, parts of fighter jets, lasers, target detection elements, and special equipment providing fire control were seized from 33 cargo units.

Hans Lammerant, a member of the Flemish NGO, stated that they made the tip-off and that they were aware of 17 previous illegal military material transfers having been conducted in a similar manner. - LIEGE
