A release order was issued for 7 journalists who were detained and subsequently arrested during the protests held for the removed Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) President Ekrem İmamoğlu. Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç stated yesterday regarding the matter, "Let's investigate the situation of the mentioned journalists who are working to inform the public; if they were involved in the actions or in provocation, that is also not right, so let's look into their circumstances."

In Istanbul, a release decision was made regarding 7 journalists who were arrested after being detained while following the protest actions that began after Ekrem İmamoğlu's detention.

Seven journalists who were detained while covering the İmamoğlu protests included AFP reporter Yasin Akgül, NOW News reporter Ali Onur Tosun, photojournalist Bülent Kılıç, reporter Zeynep Kuray, İBB photojournalist Kurtuluş Arı, Bakırköy Municipality photojournalist Gökhan Kam, and reporter Hayri Tunç, who were later arrested.

MINISTER TUNÇ: WE WILL EVALUATE

Minister Tunç was asked about the detention of journalists in the Parliament. Tunç responded: "We need to know the status of the files. No one wants the detention of journalists. Journalists are individuals who inform the public, but if they are present as journalists and participate in acts of violence, then the matter is up to the judiciary; it is not possible for us to know their files. Let's ask about the situation of the journalists you mentioned. There is a concern about the victimization of journalists. If someone claims to be a journalist but has been involved in acts of violence or attempted provocation, that is also not correct. That would not be a journalistic activity. But let's take a look at their situations."
