In the process initiated against Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey regarding allegations of irregularities and bribery, a detention order was issued, and with his suspension by the Ministry of Interior, the municipal administration was temporarily transferred. Governor Erol Ayyıldız announced that Deputy Governor Hulusi Doğan was assigned to carry out the duties and operations of the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality until a new deputy mayor is elected.
After the arrest of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey as part of the investigation into "irregularities" and "bribery," a temporary change was made in the municipal administration. Following the decision of the Ministry of Interior, a temporary appointment was made to replace Bozbey until the process is completed.
DEPUTY GOVERNOR APPOINTED After Bozbey, who was detained during the operation held on March 31 and arrested by the court on April 4, was suspended from his duties, Deputy Governor Hulusi Doğan temporarily took over the position of Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor.
Hulusi Doğan UNTIL A DEPUTY IS ELECTED In the appointment letter published under the signature of Erol Ayyıldız, it was stated that Bozbey was suspended from his duties with the approval of the Ministry of Interior dated April 4, 2026, and that the municipal affairs would be conducted by Hulusi Doğan until a deputy mayor is elected, in accordance with Article 45 of the Municipal Law No. 5393.
It is expected that the municipal council will convene in the coming days to elect the deputy mayor.
WHAT HAPPENED? As part of the investigation into the allegations in the Nilüfer district by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office; teams from the Bursa Police Department's Smuggling and Organized Crime Division detained 58 people, including CHP Bursa Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mustafa Bozbey, on March 31 on charges of "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing a crime, being a member of an organization established for the purpose of committing a crime, bribery, laundering assets derived from crime, and causing environmental pollution."
Following the merger of this case with the previous case involving former Nilüfer Municipality Mayor Turgay Erdem, a detention order was issued for 7 more individuals yesterday.
Mayor Bozbey, who had been in custody for 5 days, was referred to the court by the prosecutor's office with a request for arrest late last night.
After approximately 14 hours of interrogation, 30 suspects, including Mustafa Bozbey, who were referred to the court, were arrested.
The prosecutor's office released 32 suspects, including Mustafa Bozbey's wife Seden Bozbey, daughter Side Bozbey, and brother, under judicial control.
