The fight between Tuğba Danışmaz and Sedef Çevik at the Turkey Indoor Athletics Championship halted the competition; two national athletes were disqualified, and a disciplinary process has been initiated regarding the incident.
The Turkey Indoor Athletics Championship held in Istanbul was interrupted due to a fight that broke out during the triple jump competition. The argument that started between national athletes Tuğba Danışmaz and Sedef Çevik escalated into a hair-pulling brawl in the middle of the track.
THE COMPETITION STOPPED, THE HALL WAS CHAOTIC
The verbal dispute that arose for an unknown reason between European runner-up Tuğba Danışmaz and European seventh-placed Sedef Çevik quickly got out of control.
SIDELINES ALSO GOT INVOLVED IN THE FIGHT
The incident was not limited to the athletes. A fistfight also occurred between Tuğba Danışmaz's boyfriend, former athlete Arda Eriş, and the President of the Technical Board of the Turkish Athletics Federation, Cüneyt Yüksel.
FEDERATION MANAGEMENT INTERVENED
After the chaos in the hall, the President of the Turkish Athletics Federation, Ahmet Karadağ, Vice President Ayşegül Baklacı, and ENKA Sports General Manager Ekrem Ay arrived at the scene to separate the parties. According to a report by Sözcü, it was stated that neither party filed a complaint against the other.
DISQUALIFICATION DECISION WAS MADE
The refereeing committee disqualified 26-year-old Tuğba Danışmaz and 22-year-old Sedef Çevik following the incidents. It was learned that the Turkish Athletics Federation has initiated a disciplinary process regarding the incident and that additional sanctions may also be on the agenda.
