In Adana, the Polat family was assaulted by their neighbor I.S. after having arguments two months apart. In the first argument, the father, Nafız Polat (61), had his teeth broken, while in the second fight, Nazmiye Polat (61) and their son Furkan Polat (20) were stabbed. The family, who obtained a medical report documenting the assault, filed a criminal complaint, while neighbor I.S. also reported being assaulted.
The Polat family living in Adana had a dispute with their neighbor I.S. over parking on September 18. As the argument escalated, I.S. allegedly assaulted Nafız Polat and his wife Nazmiye Polat. Nafız Polat had three front teeth broken, while Nazmiye Polat suffered bruises on her body, and the couple received a medical report documenting the assault. On November 27, I.S. allegedly insulted the Polat couple's son, Furkan Polat. A fight broke out again between the parties. I.S. struck Nazmiye Polat in the face with a knife he took from his pocket and hit Furkan Polat on the head. While the injured mother and son were taken to the hospital, the family filed a criminal complaint against I.S. I.S. also filed a complaint against the family, stating that the rearview mirror of his wife's car was broken, which led to the argument, and that he was also assaulted.
'HE INJURED MY FACE WITH A KNIFE'
Nazmiye Polat said, "I.S. had parked his vehicle in front of our house. While he was getting into his car, I spoke to him. We told him that we couldn't enter our house because he parked in front of it. He then cursed and drove his vehicle towards me. After returning from work in the evening, he parked his car in the same place again. When I warned him again, he attacked me this time. He is a COPD patient, he broke my husband's teeth; he also punched me. We received a medical report. Despite two months passing since the fight, he continued his threats. On November 27, another argument broke out, and as the fight escalated, he injured my son's head and my face with a knife. Before the attack, he recorded us on video, portraying his children as victims. After finishing the video, he sprayed me with pepper spray and attacked my face with his knife. We filed a complaint against him," she said.
'HE SHARED THE VIDEO AS IF WE ATTACKED'
Furkan Polat stated, "He was provoking me wherever he saw me. Two months ago, he assaulted my father, who has COPD, and my mother, who has breast cancer. Since that day, he continued to threaten me, saying 'Be smart.' On November 27, when I stepped out the door after dinner, he started making remarks again. When I reminded him that he assaulted my mother and father, he said, 'I can do it to you too.' During the argument, he recorded me on video. I asked him to back off since he was with his children, but he didn't listen. As the fight escalated, he stabbed me and my mother. He shared the video on social media as if we were the ones who attacked," he said.
'HE WAS PROVOKING ME'
Furkan Polat said, "My only aim was to protect my mother. As soon as the video ended, he sprayed us with pepper spray and attacked us with a knife. It was clear that he came prepared. During his first attack, he also had his children with him and was constantly provoking me by saying, 'You are the son of the man whose teeth I broke, the son of the woman I assaulted.' After the posts, people saw me as guilty, and even my mother and sister were insulted. The truth of the incident is not in the videos; he cut the footage to make us look guilty," he said.
