The number of people emigrating from Israel has reached a record level. According to official data, more than 82,000 people left the country in 2023, with a large portion being educated young people aged between 20 and 39. Experts have warned that this situation poses long-term risks for the Israeli economy.
The Israeli press reported that the number of people leaving the country has reached the highest level in recent years. According to a report in Maariv newspaper, official data shows that the number of people emigrating from Israel has reached "record levels," with only a small portion returning.
YOUNG AND EDUCATED POPULATION LEAVING THE COUNTRY
A report prepared by the Research and Information Center affiliated with the Parliament stated that the majority of those leaving the country are educated young people aged 20-39 and individuals who have immigrated to Israel in recent years.
SHARP INCREASE IN EMIGRATION FIGURES
According to data from the Central Bureau of Statistics, an average of 36,000 people left Israel each year between 2009 and 2021, while in 2022, this number increased by 46% to 55,000, and in 2023, it rose by 50% to 82,700. It was noted that there was a sharp increase in departures, especially in October 2023.
ECONOMIC RISK GROWS
The report emphasized that the young population leaving the country has a high employment potential, and this situation could pose serious risks to the Israeli economy in the long term. It was also recorded that the number of those returning to the country after staying abroad for a long time has decreased to as low as 24,000 annually.
