Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi (15), who was brutally murdered by his peers while shopping for skateboard equipment at the historic Tuesday Market in Kadıköy, Istanbul, will have a new hearing today in the case regarding his murder.

VERDICT EXPECTED

In the 6th hearing of the case regarding the Minguzzi murder, a verdict is expected to be announced today. In the last hearing, the prosecutor, who presented his opinion, requested the maximum penalty for the two suspects accused of murder for the child's death, and for the other two suspects for aiding the murder, stating, "No reductions for discretion or unjust provocation should be applied."

WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST HEARING?

In the 5th session of the trial, two suspects gave their statements. The tension escalated when the lawyer of one of the newly added suspects presented a disability report obtained during his client's primary school years to the court. It was learned that the report contained details such as attention deficit and difficulty in speech. The court, which announced its interim decision, ruled that the detention of the four child suspects should continue.

"WE WILL LIE DOWN LIKE LIONS AND GET OUT"

A letter written by suspect B.B. to the other detained suspect U.B. had emerged. In B.B.'s letter, he wrote, "Is your comfort good? If you ask me, I'm fine, we did something and we are paying the price. We will lie down like lions and get out. You don't stay too long anyway, are your parents taking care of you? We will lie down like lions and get out. Don't worry, you'll be out in a year, we've already been in for 5 months. Endure for another 6-7 months, I love you. Don't get involved with anyone, don't eat any minutes or anything. Let there be no minutes or anything that comes up in court, but don't let anyone push you around and don't push anyone around either. Set up your order there, my order is here."

FROM THE INDICTMENT

According to the indictment prepared by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, on January 24, Mattia Ahmet Minguzzi went to the historic Tuesday market in Kadıköy Hasanpaşa with his friends to buy skateboard equipment, where they encountered U.B. (15) and B.B. (15), and it is reported that after a conversation between them, B.B. pushed Minguzzi.

The indictment states that B.B. confronted Minguzzi again, who continued to walk around, and punched him, and that the suspect wounded Minguzzi in different parts of his body with a knife in his hand.

The indictment also mentions that U.B. kicked Minguzzi, who had fallen to the ground, and after the intervention of nearby citizens, U.B. and B.B. fled the scene. It is stated that Minguzzi, who was treated in the hospital after the incident, died 17 days later on February 9.

According to the autopsy report obtained from the Forensic Medicine Institution, it is recorded that Minguzzi had 3 incised wounds on his body and a penetrating wound in his chest, and the cause of death was due to internal organ injuries caused by a cutting tool attack.

The indictment notes that U.B. kicked Minguzzi, while B.B. stabbed him multiple times with a knife taken from the counter, and it is requested that both suspects, who were caught and arrested after the incident, be sentenced to 18 to 24 years in prison for "intentional murder of a child."

As part of the investigation conducted by the Anadolu Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an indictment was prepared for child suspects M.A.D. and A.Ö., who were determined to have acted with B.B. and U.B. on the day of the incident, for "aiding in the intentional murder of a child," with a request for a combined sentence of 15 to 20 years in prison.
