A new development has occurred regarding the scandal in which photos of female students at Izmir University of Economics were uploaded to a website and put to a vote under titles such as "most beautiful" and "ugliest." Among the three suspects detained as part of the investigation, Yiğit Efe İren has been arrested, while the other suspects have been released.

A criminal investigation has been launched by the İzmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the allegation that the personal data of female students registered at İzmir University of Economics was unlawfully accessed and leaked to an internet site, and shared from there.

ONE SUSPECT ARRESTED

As part of the investigation initiated for the crimes of 'unlawfully accessing or disseminating personal data and disrupting, destroying, making inaccessible the data in the information system and placing data into the system', 3 suspects were detained in a simultaneous operation carried out on January 7 in Sakarya and Antalya.

After the completion of the procedures at the police station, one of the suspects, Yiğit Efe İren, was arrested, while the others were released.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The photos of female students who have registered at İzmir University of Economics since 2001 were stolen by unidentified individuals.

The photos were uploaded to the internet site and opened for voting under titles such as "the most beautiful" and "the ugliest". Additionally, the students' numbers were also shared on the internet site.

In response, the university administration filed a criminal complaint, and the internet site was shut down. When the site, which remained closed for a while, was accessed, a message was encountered stating that the site had been closed and the photos had been deleted.

The message included the following statements: "Farewell and Forgiveness. If I have hurt you, whether knowingly or unknowingly, or if I have any rights over you; my intention was to draw attention to the cybersecurity vulnerability at the school. I did not want to disturb anyone intentionally. I sincerely apologize for what has happened. I have permanently deleted all files. If I have any rights over you, even as small as a mustard seed, may it be forgiven. Please forgive me as well."

In relation to the incident, 3 suspects were arrested in simultaneous operations carried out in Sakarya and Antalya. One of the suspects, Yiğit Efe İren, was arrested.
