According to the bill that includes regulations to increase administrative fines for drivers who do not comply with traffic rules; a driver who leaves the scene of a traffic accident resulting in death or injury will face up to 3 years in prison. Drivers who talk on the phone while driving will be fined 5,000 lira for the first offense, 10,000 lira for the second offense, and 20,000 lira for three or more offenses.
AK Party deputies, under the leadership of Group Chairman Abdullah Güler and Group Deputy Chairman Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu, have completed the work on the legislative proposal that includes regulations to increase administrative fines for drivers who violate traffic rules.
TRAFFIC FINES ARE INCREASING
The proposal, which is expected to be submitted to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey this week, will amend the Highway Traffic Law.
According to the proposal, administrative fines for those who exceed speed limits, violate red lights, change lanes incorrectly, and do not comply with turning rules will be increased.
PRISON SENTENCE FOR DRIVERS WHO LEAVE THE SCENE
The administrative fine for those who leave the scene of an accident involving material damage, fatalities, or injuries without obligation will be raised to 46,000 lira. Additionally, drivers who leave the scene of an accident involving fatalities or injuries without permission will face imprisonment of 1 to 3 years, and their driving licenses will be revoked for 2 years.
THOSE TALKING ON THE PHONE WILL PAY A FORTUNE
The administrative fine for drivers using mobile phones and communication devices while driving will be increased to 5,000 lira. In this context, if this rule is violated for the second time within 1 year from the date of the last violation, drivers will be fined 10,000 lira. Furthermore, if this rule is violated 3 or more times within 1 year from the date of the last violation, drivers will be fined 20,000 lira each time, and their driving licenses will be revoked for 30 days each time.
200,000 LIRA FINE FOR DRIVERS USING VEHICLES DESPITE LICENSE CANCELLATION
Those driving without a license will be fined 40,000 lira, those driving despite a temporary license suspension will be fined 20,000 lira, and those driving despite their driving license being revoked will face an administrative fine of 200,000 lira. The proposal will also include regulations for the use of tachographs in vehicles carrying goods and passengers, and taximeters in taxis.
