The Ministry of National Education (MEB) has announced the academic calendar for the 2025-2026 school year, which millions of students and parents have been eagerly awaiting. While the start and end dates of the new term have been determined, details regarding the Ramadan and Sacrifice Feast holidays have also been clarified. According to the MEB calendar, students will not be able to have an extra holiday this year due to the coincidence of the Ramadan Feast with the mid-term break.
According to the official calendar published by the Ministry of National Education (MEB), the 2025-2026 academic year will start on Monday, September 8, 2025. Students and teachers will return to the new school year on this date with the "first bell" after the summer vacation.
FIRST MID-TERM AND SEMESTER BREAK DATES
Students will have their first mid-term break from November 10 to 14, 2025. Afterwards, they will continue classes from where they left off on November 17. The semester break will start on Monday, January 19, 2026, and will end on Friday, January 30, 2026.
WILL COINCIDE WITH NOVEMBER 10 HOLIDAY
However, a notable detail in the calendar is that the first term mid-term break will start on November 10, which is the anniversary of the death of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey.
SECOND TERM START AND SECOND MID-TERM
The second term of the 2025-2026 academic year will start on Monday, February 2, 2026.
The second mid-term break will take place from March 16 to 20, 2026. However, since this holiday period coincides with the 2026 Ramadan Feast, students will not be able to take an additional holiday for the feast this year.
NO EXTRA HOLIDAY DURING RAMADAN FEAST
According to the calendar, the Ramadan Feast will fall in March 2026 and will be celebrated during the mid-term break. Therefore, MEB has not planned any extra holiday for the feast. Students will spend the feast during the second mid-term break.
FEAST OF SACRIFICE JUST BEFORE SCHOOLS CLOSE
The Feast of Sacrifice will be celebrated from May 27 to 30, 2026. The day before the feast falls on Tuesday, May 26. The holiday will take place shortly before the schools close. The 2025-2026 academic year will end on Friday, June 26, 2026.
OFFICIAL HOLIDAYS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR
The official holiday dates to be celebrated in the new academic year are as follows:
- January 1, 2026, Thursday – New Year's Day
- April 23, 2026, Thursday – National Sovereignty and Children's Day
- May 1, 2026, Friday – Labor and Solidarity Day
- May 19, 2026, Tuesday – Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day
