Activists initially gathered in the square wearing black chadors. As the live broadcast began, the women tore off their veils, sending the message, "We do not bow to oppression." The activists also burned the photos of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei they held. Raising the photos engulfed in flames, the protesters declared that they do not recognize the authority of the Iranian regime.

As the photos burned, slogans of "Woman, life, freedom" rose in the square.
In a statement made on behalf of the group, the following was expressed: "We are also burning the empire of fear imposed on us. We are here for every woman who is on the streets at the cost of her life and resisting in prisons in Iran. Our support is unconditional, and our anger will not subside."
