M.D.Y., who was assaulted by his classmate Y.C. in Çanakkale, is still receiving treatment in intensive care due to severe injuries. It has been learned that M.D.Y.'s condition remains critical on the 12th day in intensive care.

HIS HEART STOPPED IN THE AMBULANCE

The incident occurred on September 25 at around 15:30 at İÇDAŞ Biga Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School; M.D.Y. stepped on the foot of his classmate Y.C. In response, Y.C. punched M.D.Y. M.D.Y. fell to the ground after hitting his head on the desk from the blow. Y.C. kicked and punched M.D.Y. while he was on the ground. The supervising teacher reported the situation to the medical teams. The medical teams that arrived determined that M.D.Y.'s heart had stopped. M.D.Y.'s heart was restarted with intervention in the ambulance. M.D.Y., who was first taken to Biga State Hospital and then transferred to Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University Hospital, was found to have suffered a brain hemorrhage and damage to several organs.

SUSPECT ARRESTED

While an investigation into the incident has been initiated, Y.C., who was taken into custody, was arrested for 'attempted murder.' M.D.Y.'s treatment in intensive care continues. As part of the administrative investigation initiated after the incident, the school principal and two assistant principals at İÇDAŞ Biga Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School were temporarily suspended. While M.D.Y.'s treatment in intensive care continues, lawyer Şeyma Çimendere made statements about the current situation.

"STATEMENTS OF 15 MORE CHILDREN HAVE BEEN SOUGHT"

Lawyer Çimendere, stating that the issue of peer bullying has saddened everyone, said:

"This issue has also come up regarding my client recently. My client is currently intubated and has not yet regained consciousness. He is fighting for his life in the intensive care unit. As far as the progress of the case is concerned, the investigation authorities are conducting the investigation meticulously. As far as we know, almost all the children present in the class were there when the incident occurred, and there was a need to seek their statements again. In this context, a decision was made to expand the investigation as of October 3. Statements from 15 more children have been sought. Based on the stage of the case, the evidence situation, and some reports, if I need to comment, our child who is being prosecuted has no injuries other than a few scratches. My client, the victim child, was taken to the hospital with a head trauma, cardiac arrest, lung collapse, and damage to the pancreas and liver, which indicates that my client was defenseless or immobile and unconscious for a certain period, and violence continued to be inflicted upon him."

"IT WAS ORALLY DETERMINED THAT HE DID NOT RECEIVE OXYGEN FOR UP TO 25 MINUTES"

Providing information about witness statements, Çimendere said, "When I synthesized the general statements of the witnesses, as far as I understand from the occurrence of the incident, there was a bet between my client and a different friend regarding doing push-ups. Later, our other child who is being prosecuted and another friend heard this. They started laughing at my client mockingly. Even the teachers warned them. Then, a pushing match started under the pretext of stepping on each other's feet. My client was intentionally held and thrown to the ground. As a result of the fall, he hit his head on the teacher's desk. He fell to the ground in a faint state. The violence continued. He was still being punched and beaten. After he started trembling and liquid, which we would describe as 'white foam,' began to come out of his mouth, his friends realized the severity of the situation and removed our suspect child from him," she stated.

"THERE IS NO PREVIOUS GRUDGE"

Çimendere stated, "Similarly, before he was thrown down, there was a situation where 5-6 punches were applied. There is no previous grudge between the two children. There is no problem with other friends outside of the children. Let’s not dismiss this incident as 'a fight between children' or 'peer bullying.' Such incidents should make us consider how far the situation, the issue, and the dimension can reach. Please instill this awareness in our children or provide them with the opportunity for rehabilitation. There are some tests that have been done on my client in the hospital. They have not yet been reported, and the minute-by-minute rate may change regarding this. However, based on the discussions we had with his doctor, it was orally determined that M.D.Y. did not receive oxygen for approximately 25 minutes," she said.
