The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) announced that public transportation will be free on New Year's Eve and that 680 new trips will be added to the existing services. The police, fire department, and emergency response teams will also be on alert during this period.
The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) announced that public transportation will be free in the city on January 1 and that additional services will be provided to accommodate the crowd on New Year's Eve.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS FREE IN ISTANBUL ON JANUARY 1
In a statement from IMM, it was noted that comprehensive measures have been taken to ensure a safe, orderly, and enjoyable environment in the city during the New Year, with additional services and free transportation being provided, and that the police, fire department, and emergency response teams will be on alert.
The statement indicated that public transportation vehicles under the municipality will provide free service on January 1, the first official holiday of the new year, and that a total of 680 additional services will be carried out, with 370 on bus lines and 310 on the metrobus, in addition to the existing service plan on New Year's Eve.
ADDITIONAL SERVICES WILL BE ARRANGED
The statement emphasized that backup vehicles will be available at central points according to passenger demand, and continued: "On the night of December 31, 2025, to January 1, 2026, the Metro Istanbul lines M1A Yenikapı-Atatürk Airport, M1B Yenikapı-Kirazlı, M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman, M3 Bakırköy-Kayaşehir, M4 Kadıköy-Sabiha Gökçen Airport, M5 Üsküdar-Samandıra, M6 Levent-Boğaziçi Ü./Hisarüstü, M7 Yıldız-Mahmutbey, M8 Bostancı-Parseller, and M9 Bahriye-Olimpiyat will operate for 24 hours. Additionally, the T1 Kabataş-Bağcılar, T3 Kadıköy-Moda, T4 Topkapı-Mescidi Selam, T5 Eminönü-Alibeyköy tram lines, and the F1 Taksim-Kabataş, F4 Boğaziçi University/Hisarüstü-Aşiyan funicular lines will continue their services until 02:00 on January 1. City Lines will also arrange additional services based on passenger density on New Year's Eve, December 31."
The statement mentioned that the Zoning Department will carry out comprehensive inspections and measures throughout the city from the evening of December 31 to the morning of January 1, and that administrative action will be taken in case of any violations. It was also reported that the Fire Department will be on standby for potential fires and hazardous situations, and that emergency medical and rescue teams will provide services with sufficient personnel and ambulances at health stations throughout New Year's.
