Reactions from politicians poured in regarding the scuffle that occurred before the swearing-in of Justice Minister Akın Gürlek and Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi in the General Assembly.
YILMAZ: THE OPPOSITION'S ATTITUDE DOES NOT ALIGN WITH THE SERIOUSNESS OF THE POLITICAL INSTITUTION Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz stated, "I condemn the provocative approach presented by the CHP Group during the swearing-in ceremony of our Interior and Justice Ministers in our esteemed Parliament." In a statement he made on his social media account, Yılmaz noted: "I condemn the provocative approach presented by the CHP Group during the swearing-in ceremony of our Interior and Justice Ministers in our esteemed Parliament. This attitude of the main opposition is not only undemocratic and unlawful, but it also does not align with the seriousness of the political institution. Regardless of which party they voted for, our esteemed nation does not deserve such images in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. Such approaches harm the democratic atmosphere and clearly violate the dignity of our Parliament and its Rules of Procedure. I invite all actors engaged in politics under the roof of the Parliament to act with respect and responsibility, aware that they represent our esteemed nation."
ÇELİK: CHP'S MENTALITY IS INFECTED WITH INSUFFICIENCY REGARDING POLITICAL OPPOSITION AK Party Deputy Chairman and Party Spokesman Ömer Çelik stated: "The CHP group's attempt to prevent our Justice and Interior Ministers from taking their oaths in the esteemed Parliament is an attack on our democracy. We condemn this disrespect towards the members of our government and the esteemed Parliament. It is the duty of all elements of the political institution to protect democratic principles and the dignity of the Parliament. Today, the CHP group has acted in the opposite direction. The CHP must separate its political opposition from its anti-democratic stance. The CHP mentality is infected with insufficiency regarding political opposition. Anti-democracy has become a hallmark of the CHP."
DESTİCİ: THEY HAVE STAINED OUR DEMOCRACY AND TURKISH POLITICAL HISTORY Mustafa Destici, the Chairman of the Great Unity Party, also commented on the issue, stating, "The attempts of the Republican People's Party Group to obstruct the swearing-in ceremony in the General Assembly following the appointments of the Interior and Justice Ministers, made under Article 106 of the Constitution, have cast a shadow on the weight and dignity of our esteemed Parliament. You can criticize the appointments made by the executive, you can object. However, trying to obstruct the functioning of the Parliament through the use of force and violence, especially on behalf of the CHP, which bears the responsibility of being the main opposition party, has caused sadness for all of us. Those who caused the ministers of the Republic of Turkey to take their oaths under a protective shield have stained our democracy and Turkish political history. I condemn the members of parliament responsible for these disgraceful images and leave them to the conscience of our esteemed nation. Once again, I congratulate Mr. Mustafa Çiftçi, who has been appointed as the Minister of Interior, and Mr. Akın Gürlek, who has been appointed as the Minister of Justice, wishing that their duties bring goodness to our country and our nation."
