Spain's Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares commented on U.S. President Donald Trump's statements regarding threats of trade sanctions and embargoes against Spain. Albares stated that the Madrid government would not shy away from such pressures, saying, "We are not afraid of Trump's threats in any way."

In his latest statement, U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Sanchez's policies, saying, "They behaved very badly. We could cut trade with Spain. The Spanish people are great, but their leaders are not."

TRADE POLICY IS UNDER THE EU'S AUTHORITY

Speaking to Spain's state television TVE, Albares expressed that it is not easy for the U.S. to take unilateral trade actions, emphasizing that the European Union has a common trade policy and that the authority lies in Brussels.

Previously, President Trump had criticized Spain for not cooperating with Washington in operations against Iran and had made statements suggesting that he could cut trade relations between the two countries.

THE MADRID GOVERNMENT IS DISTANT FROM WAR POLICY

Albares stated that Spain would not be part of steps that could lead to the escalation of war, expressing that the government continues its "no to war" policy.
