The Board of Presidents of the Turkish Pensioners' Association has requested a flat increase for retirees. In a statement made by the association, it was emphasized that "It is essential to recalculate retirement pensions according to the adjustment rules and to pay a pension sufficient for a decent living. A flat increase in retirement pensions should be urgently implemented to ensure that they do not fall below the poverty line and the minimum wage."

According to a written statement from the Turkish Pensioners' Association, the board of presidents of the association convened in Ankara to discuss the issues on the agenda of retirees. In the final statement published after the meeting, it was claimed that the current economic program has not yielded the expected results in the fight against inflation.

"RETIREMENT PENSIONS MUST BE RECALCULATED"

In the statement, it was noted that the inconsistency of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) used in inflation calculations with market prices has eroded the increases in retirement pensions, and the following expressions were included: "To protect retirement rights, our social security system must be established on a solid foundation, retirement pensions must be recalculated according to adjustment rules, and pensions sufficient for a decent living must be paid."

"AN IMMEDIATE GENERAL INCREASE MUST BE MADE"

To ensure that retirement pensions do not fall below the poverty line and the minimum wage, an immediate general increase in retirement pensions must be made. While the 2026 budget is being discussed in the Parliament, it is necessary to allocate the required resources based on the cost of living of our retirees and to finalize the adjustment of retirees after 2000."

"INDIRECT TAXES HAVE A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON RETIREMENT PENSIONS"

In the statement, it was also requested that changes be made to the lower limit pension calculation system, and the following was recorded: "The current pension calculation system and the method of pension increases should be improved. To ensure that there is no difference in retirement pensions on an annual basis, pension increases should be reflected in the same way in the updating coefficient. The lower limit pension calculation rate should be 70% to prevent root pensions from decreasing. The indirect taxes paid by our retirees in their expenditures have a negative impact on retirement pensions. In light of this reality, the additional payment rates, which vary between 4-5% paid as a tax refund, should be reorganized to 10%."
