Erdal Beşikçioğlu, the Mayor of Etimesgut, announced that they have filed a criminal complaint regarding the allegations of corruption in the municipality made by former AK Party MP Şamil Tayyar. Beşikçioğlu stated, "Our municipality will continue to fulfill its services with a transparent and social understanding of municipalism, with the responsibility of being worthy of the trust shown by our fellow citizens of Etimesgut."

Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu held a press conference in front of the municipality building regarding the allegations of corruption in the Etimesgut Municipality raised by former AK Party Member of Parliament Şamil Tayyar in a television program. Beşikçioğlu was accompanied by Ankara Provincial Chairman Ümit Erkol and municipal council members.

"LEGAL ACTIONS HAVE BEEN INITIATED BY OUR MUNICIPALITY"

Stating that they have filed a criminal complaint regarding the issue, Beşikçioğlu said: "We have gathered here to announce that necessary legal actions have been initiated by our municipality regarding the unfounded allegations raised in a television broadcast about the Etimesgut Municipality, and that we have filed a criminal complaint against those responsible. The baseless allegations mentioned in the broadcast are not only an attack on the institutional reputation of our municipality but also a deliberate effort to create a negative perception targeting all of our municipal council members. For this reason, our CHP municipal council members have also exercised their individual legal rights against the relevant individuals and broadcasts.

"OUR MUNICIPALITY WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICES WITH A TRANSPARENT AND SOCIAL MUNICIPALITY UNDERSTANDING"

Etimesgut Municipality continues its activities with a local governance approach committed to the principles of transparency, accountability, and the rule of law, conducting all its services and transactions in a manner open to public oversight, in compliance with regulations, and transparently. It is clear that the statements of the mentioned newspaper, which contain elements of the crime of publicly disseminating misleading information and defamation, are merely ideological discourses aimed at damaging our institutional reputation. Furthermore, it is expected that the relevant broadcasting organization will promptly fulfill its obligation to refute and correct these unfounded accusations. Our municipality will continue to provide services with a transparent and social municipality understanding, fulfilling the responsibility of being worthy of the trust shown by our Etimesgut citizens."

FROM THE PETITION: ELEMENTS OF THE CRIME OF PUBLICLY DISSEMINATING MISLEADING INFORMATION HAVE OCCURRED

On the other hand, in the criminal complaint petition, it was stated that after Şamil Tayyar's statements in the television broadcast, unfounded shares were made on social media about the Etimesgut Municipality and the Municipal Council members, that the Municipal Council members were targeted, and that the trust placed in them by citizens was damaged. The petition claimed that the elements of the crime of "publicly disseminating misleading information" regulated in Article 217/A of the Turkish Penal Code were constituted by Tayyar's statements.

Tayyar had claimed in the relevant broadcast, "If you are sincere about this, take a look at the Etimesgut Municipality, at the zoning works there... It is being done in cooperation with the Central Headquarters. Who brought the man at the head of the Zoning Department from Istanbul for God's sake? The relevant friend at the Central Headquarters knows this. There is still rampant theft and corruption in Etimesgut."
