WHO IS HIKMET ÇETİN?
Turkish politician, statesman, and former Chairman of the Republican People's Party, Hikmet Çetin was born in 1937 in the Lice district of Diyarbakır. He served as the Chairman of the CHP between February 1995 and September 1995. Çetin, who served as Deputy Prime Minister between March 1995 - October 1995 and October 1978 - November 1979, has held positions in many governments.
Çetin, who first entered the parliament as an Istanbul deputy in the 1977 general elections, served as Deputy Prime Minister in the coalition government established by Bülent Ecevit between 1978-1979. His party was closed after the September 12 coup.
