Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı was hospitalized for treatment due to a sudden illness. In a statement regarding his health, which he made directly on his social media account, Ortaylı noted that the illness he experienced was much more severe compared to his previous health issues.
One of Turkey's most renowned historians, academics, and authors, Prof. Dr. İlber Ortaylı, has been a prominent figure for many years with his wealth of knowledge. From television programs to conferences, and from the books he has written to his columns, he has brought historical awareness to society in many areas. With his unique style, sharp intellect, and striking comments, he has always managed to attract public interest.
"THIS TIME IT WAS MORE SEVERE" The famous historian stated that he was treated for more than a week in a private hospital due to a sudden illness. Ortaylı expressed in his post that his condition was much more severe than what he had experienced in the past, announcing that he needed to rest for a while upon his doctors' advice. He also stated that he would not be able to attend events such as the Haliç Congress Center, Dokuz Eylul University, and the Kocaeli Book Fair during this period. The famous academic, expecting understanding from his followers, used the following expressions: "I must confess that this illness was much more severe than my previous troubles. I currently do not have the strength to undertake long journeys and meet you. Additionally, I need to lead an isolated life for a while."
İlber Ortaylı stated, "Due to the reactions caused by a suddenly emerging illness, I was treated at Koç Hospital for more than a week. I must confess that this illness I experienced was much more severe than my previous troubles. Therefore, I could not attend the events at the Haliç Congress Center, İzmir Dokuz Eylul University, and the City Hospital. Unfortunately, upon my doctors' advice, I had to cancel our meeting at the Kocaeli Book Fair, which will take place this weekend. I currently do not have the strength to undertake long journeys and meet you. Additionally, I need to lead an isolated life for a while. I sincerely thank all of you for your understanding and for wishing me healing with your beautiful words.
Thanks also to Prof. Mehmet Kanbay and his valuable team. With their dedicated efforts, I overcame this crisis and I am still continuing my treatment under their close supervision. My doctor is not just recommending that I rest; he is practically "ordering" it. Therefore, I will remain at rest for a while longer.
I would like to thank everyone who has called, inquired, and shown their interest and friendship. I wish you all healthy days.'
HEART ATTACK RUMORS DENIED On the other hand, in recent weeks, some news claimed that Ortaylı had suffered a heart attack. However, both he and his daughter Tuna Ortaylı categorically denied these rumors. It was stated that the famous historian was only in the hospital for a short health check, that his condition was good, and that he was resting as a precaution.
