Halil and Eşe Nazlı Çetin, a couple living in the Çivril district of Denizli, have 12 children whose names are inspired by the epic tales of Central Asian Turkish culture. Father Halil Çetin emphasized his respect for the past by stating that he chose these names, which surprise those who hear them for the first time, based on inspiration from Turkish history.
Halil Çetin, a 63-year-old resident of İğdir Neighborhood in the Çivril district of Denizli, has had an interest in Turkish history since his youth. He runs a marble factory where he produces goods.
PEOPLE ARE SURPRISED BY THE NAMES HE GAVE TO HIS CHILDREN
Due to this interest, Çetin named his 12 children "Oğuzhan, İlbilge, Aybike Halime, Hazercan Neşe, Alper Tunga, Aybars Pusat, Selenge Senem, Ramazan Kürşat, Alperen Koray, Kurtcebe Noyan, Subutay Noyan, and Börübars Sancar."
The residents of Çivril know the Çetin family well due to both the large size of the family and the uniqueness of the children's names. Especially those who do business with the family and social media users show interest in the names.
"I HAVE READ MANY HISTORIANS' BOOKS 2-3 TIMES"
Father Çetin stated that they are originally from Afyonkarahisar but that his family migrated to Çivril 64 years ago. He mentioned that he married his wife Eşe Nazlı in 1984 and that he chose the names of his children from Turkish names that have a place in Turkish history.
Çetin explained that the youngest of his 8 sons and 4 daughters is 17 years old, while the oldest is 40, and he said: "I come from a nationalist and idealist background. I am a person raised with that upbringing. I have a great love, respect, and curiosity for Turkish history. Until I finished high school, I read many historians' books 2-3 times. I named my children after names that have a place in ancient Turkish history, names that remain in hearts and are respected. I preferred Turkish names. We are one of the oldest nations in the world. I am proud of our past."
"I AM PROUD OF MY CHILDREN"
His wife Nazlı Çetin expressed her happiness for being the mother of 12 children. She stated that she never interfered with her husband regarding the names given to the children, saying, "I didn't say not to give these names. I am proud of my children. They are all busy with their own work."
"I'M GLAD MY DAD GAVE ME THIS NAME"
19-year-old Subutay Noyan Çetin expressed that he feels different because he carries an ancient Turkish name, saying, "People are surprised when they first hear my name. It sounds different. I am really proud of my name. I’m glad my dad gave me this name. Compared to other names, my name carries weight for me."
